About Us
Native Renewables is an American Indian owned and
operated company founded by Alex McKinney to promote the use of clean,
alternative energy sources. Alex’s
interest in renewable energy began when with Josh Tickell’s book “From the
Fryer to Fuel Tank” where he learned about running diesel engines on
biodiesel and straight vegetable oil.
In the summer of 2003, Alex purchased a 1996 Volkswagen Passat TDI
diesel car and converted it to run on waste vegetable oil gotten for free
from local restaurants. From there,
his interest has grown to other areas of renewable energy, including solar
and wind power.
Alex’s plan for 2004 is to sell his home in suburban
Atlanta and move to rural western Tennessee. Together, with his family, he will construct a cordwood and
strawbale home powered by the sun.
He will live an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
